About Being Kevin
Welcome to Being Kevin — An American Guy Living the Brazilian Way.
I’m an American retiree living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After spending most of my working life in technology, I decided it was time for something different. Retirement gave me the opportunity to step away from the corporate world and spend more time doing the things I actually enjoy — reading, writing, exploring, learning, and figuring out what comes next.
Being Kevin is where I write about that next chapter.
You’ll find a little bit of everything here. I write about retirement and starting over, life in Brazil, technology, books, history, current events, and the everyday experiences that make life interesting. Some posts are thoughtful. Some are opinionated. Some are simply me complaining about something that probably doesn’t deserve quite that much attention.
That’s part of the fun.
I also write about what it’s like to experience Brazil as an American. Living here has given me a different perspective on some pretty ordinary things — from coffee and food to language, culture, transportation, beaches, and the sometimes amusing differences between American and Brazilian life.
I’m also an avid reader, so you’ll find plenty of book reviews and thoughts on what I’m reading, along with history pieces and whatever else catches my attention.
And because I’ve spent more than four decades working in technology, I’m still fascinated by what happens when technology changes the way we work and live. These days I’m also learning new skills and exploring web development, which has led to some interesting projects of its own.
There isn’t a strict formula for Being Kevin.
It’s essentially a place for me to write about what interests me, share what I’ve learned, and occasionally get something off my chest.
If you’re interested in retirement, life abroad, Brazil, books, history, technology, or just the observations of an American guy figuring out his next chapter, you’re in the right place.
Thanks for stopping by.
